Expense monitoring - If you have tried analysing your vehicle expenses on a spreadsheet you know how clumsy it can become, especially if you want to analyse those expenses in more than one way, or if you need to go back and find expense detail from the past.

VCost is specifically designed for the small business (1-20 vehicles), and the individual, who do not want a very complicated fleet management system. VCost allows one to monitor vehicle expenses quickly and easily. The user defines their own expense categories, currency, distance parameters etc, making it very flexible. Past expense transactions may be amended at any time.

Reports are available on screen or in print.

Maintenance scheduling - Maintenance reminders may be entered against vehicles. These may be recurring or one-off, and may be driven by time or distance. The user will be reminded automatically when reminders become due. VCost will not let you ignore reminders, and will keep notifying you until you actually print them.

SARS travel logbooks - You  can capture trip details for later reporting, in order to assist with those tax claims. This is for both those that drive company vehicles, and those that use their own vehicles for business travel.

OH Hell - Reminder program (Sample screens)

Have you ever looked at the clock and suddenly realised that you have missed that important appointment, and then muttered "OH Hell" (or something similar!)

I decided I needed a single-screen program which allowed entry of a reminder in a few seconds, whether that reminder be a one-off, weekly, monthly or whatever, and which would give me a pop-up reminder that I could not miss. OH Hell can be set to take account of working days and public holidays. For example you may have staff that you need to pay on the 25th of every month, but if that is a public holiday then they must be paid on the last working day prior to that day.  The "Forewarn" facility is particularly useful where preparation is required before an appointment.

OH Hell is a program designed primarily for monitoring business appointments which come and go frequently, but it is also very useful for those personal reminders such as birthdays and anniversaries. A birthday is a case when one might need to be forewarned a few days early in order to buy a present.

The cost? - A one-off fee of $28 (R200), but ...

Kontact - Your contacts' names, addresses and phone numbers

A useful program for those who spend quite a lot of time at their desks. It also means you dont have to clutter up your phone contacts with a lot of detail, some of which you only access occasionally. A search is provided so you dont have to scroll through dozens of names looking for someone. The data is categorised according to your own categories eg Business, Personal, Banking, Medical, Insurance, Study, Sport, etc. You make up your own categories. I even have a category called "passwords" in which I keep all my computer login details and passwords (well nothing of mine is secret). I have another called "Documents" in which I keep the whereabouts of my important documentation. So Kontact can be used for more than just names and addresses.

Eggtimer - A bit of useful nonsense for free

A useful program for those who have a laptop close to the cooking area. It is sometimes useful to have more than one Eggtimer running at a time, one for each item being timed.

System requirements - Windows 95 thru Windows 7. The programs are small and fast, and both programs and data require little space. OH Hell will require less than 5 megabytes of disk space. VCost space depends on the number of vehicles and expense transactions, but will normally require less than 5 megabytes.
